Voice disorders are a wide range of conditions ranging to simple straining and fatigue of the voice to complete loss of voice.
Voice disorders may be caused by muscle spasms, acid reflux, or problems in the vocal cords. The vocal cords are a small but integral part of the mechanism to produce voice. Causes are often linked to overuse or improper use of the voice, but at times more sinister causes like growths or cancers may be the culprit.
Some voice disorders may be managed with life style modification and speech therapy. However, at times, minimally invasive laryngoscopy may be required for tissue biopsy, injections or microsurgical manipulation of the vocal cords.
